Loving: Vintage Sheets

March 25th, 2011 — 8:33am

I’m not sure what started this but suddenly today I am finding myself obsessed with vintage floral sheets. Perhaps it’s the onset of spring (and then the snow, hail, and freezing temps we’ve been having this week again…thanks Pittsburgh!), or the cleaning of the house, or the end of another school semester, or the fact that when I showed people the video project I did around my house they said it looked “like a grandma’s house” and I said “thank you”…whatever it is, I’m in love. We’ll be in the suburbs for a bit tomorrow morning…I think we’ll have to hit up our favorite thrift store to see if we find any for ourselves! For now, here’s a pinboard of eye candy.

New Obsession: Title Nine Dresses

November 17th, 2010 — 12:13pm

Emily introduced me to Title Nine last night and wow, I am hooked. These dresses are the dresses I’ve been searching for forever but could never find. The colors, the cuts, the fabrics…yes please. Here are my favorites:

Brown long sleeve v-neck dress with tie at waist
Dress-For-Success Dress, $78

Such a comfy, casual dress. I have a pair of soft-perriwinkle-blue tights that would be perfect with this. Wear it with boots or mary janes and a scarf for autumn errand running, walking the dog, or a casual stroll through the neighborhood.

Light blue long sleeve wrap dress
Flow Tunic, $69

Love the casual-ness of this dress, and that blue color is so pretty! Perfect with sheer grey tights and black pumps for an afternoon lunch date.

Salmon cap sleeve v-neck dress
Amelia, $76

I usually don’t wear such bright colors, but that salmon is super pretty. This dress would be so perfect for running errands in the summer with sandals, sunglasses, and a big floppy hat.

Red long sleeve v-neck dress
Amelia Longsleeve, $74

Love it in long sleeves too, and the brick red is such a great color. Wear this to class with your favorite flats, and then throw on some jewelry and heels and wear it to dinner too.

Dark blue skirt with waist ties
3-in-1 Super Skirt, $55

Check this thing out…it can be a skirt, a strapless dress, AND a criss-cross dress! Love. It. Perfect for the dog days of summer when you want to wear as little clothing as humanly possible because it’s a million degrees outside.

Ladies, have you ever shopped at Title Nine? What are your favorite pieces?

Want List: Fall 2010

August 20th, 2010 — 1:18pm

Oh hey, remember that time I didn’t have internet for an entire week because Comcast is the worst company ever? Yeah. Me too. They FINALLY got around to fixing things just now so I’m finally able to get back on here.

Anyway, fall is peeking through the air here in subtle ways: the breeze is a little crisper in the mornings, the high temps are a little less high, and I don’t need to use the air conditioner at night. And I know it’s only a few short weeks until pumpkin spice lattes are back at Starbucks (!! The only time of year I ever go to Starbucks…other coffee shops’ PSLs just don’t compare) and until I will go to Home Depot to stock up on flats of hardy mums, and until I can paint my nails in OPI Ginger Bells! without feeling like a fool. And as I look through my wardrobe I see…bland! The same old sweaters I’ve had for years! Boring shoes! A bag I’m really tired of! And really, not enough autumn colors. For Fall 2010, I’m feeling lots of neutrals as bases, with dark but saturated — think burgundy, burnt orange, forest green, navy blue, mustard, and maroon — accessories to add little pops of color. Lots of drapey rayon and layered knits, and RUFFLES! For the love of god, I am obsessed with this ruffle trend that is happening right now.

I’m really loving the mood boards Lindsey over at Lost & Fawned is doing with Pantone’s Fall 2010 Color Forecast, and that combined with my blah feelings about my own wardrobe has had me internet shopping (during breaks in class when, y’know, I actually have had internet) for the past week. I’ll be doing a few installments of this series over the next few days, each day with a different category of clothing. Today, let’s start at the top with…tops!

fal2010topsboard

1. Caramel Ripple Top, $87.99, Modcloth.com
2. Flower Vendor Top, $78, Anthropologie
3. Deuxhill Cowlneck, $88, Anthropologie
4. Perennial Plot Shirt, $58, Anthropologie
5. Elbow-Sleeve Ruffle Scoopneck, $69.50, Banana Republic
6. Monologue Top, $98, Anthropologie
7. Turning Point Turtleneck, $48, Anthropologie
8. Nightfall Cardigan, $79.99, Modcloth.com

I’ll be back Monday with another mood board for skirts and dresses!

Oh, and P.S., can I just say that I am totally swamped with schoolwork right now, making screenshots and designing webpages for classes and finally freaking learning CSS instead of stumbling my way through it…and I am loving every minute of it? With every new assignment, I’m getting The Feeling that everyone talks about, The Feeling that you know you’ve chosen the right career when your schoolwork/work-work is actually fun and doesn’t feel like work at all. I can’t believe that someday (someday quite soon, even) I’ll be getting paid to do this stuff!

Want List: Knit Dresses

April 20th, 2010 — 9:06pm

If you know me, you know that I love me some jersey knit. It’s so easy to wear, to dress up or down, easy to care for, and ohh my gosh, so comfortable. Nothing says “summer” to me more than flowy knit dresses that flutter in the breeze.

Here are some of my favorites:

$54, Express (I tried this on and LOVED it, and I really might have to splurge on it — I can’t stop thinking about it!)

$37, Ruche

$98, Banana Republic

$35, ModCloth

I know it’s not quite summer yet, but it’s never too late to think ahead, right? I can’t wait to don one of these dresses, kick my feet up on the balcony, and watch the sun set over the Cathedral while sipping on my watermelon sangria.

Anyone have a favorite knit dress they can’t wait to break out this season? Or maybe one you’ve been eying in the store?
